Virial (disambiguation)

The virial of a central interaction potential $v(r)$ is defined by

$V(r)=\frac{dv(r)}{dr}r=-f(r)r.$

Apart from historical reasons, the virial features prominently classical thermodynamics (for example, see virial coefficients) and in simulation (see: virial pressure).
