The m-6-8 potential function [1] is given by (Eq. 1)

Φ12(r)=Arm−C6r6−C8r8

where r:=|r1−r2| and Φ12(r) is the intermolecular pair potential between two particles or sites. A is the coefficient corresponding to the repulsive term, and C6 and C8 are the coefficients corresponding to the attractive inverse sixth and eighth powers respectively.

This expression can be rewritten in the reduced form (Eq. 2):

Φ12*(r*)=[1m−6][6+2γ](1r*)m−[1m−6][m−γ(m−8)](1r*)6−γr*8

where Φ*=Φ/ϵ, r*=r/rm and γ=C8/rm8. ϵ is the "well" depth, and rm is the intermolecular separation at the maximum well depth.
