An \alpha shape of a set of points is given by the subset of points that are reached when "scooping out" portions of space with a certain spoon whose radius is given by the parameter \alpha (depending on the convention, \alpha can be the squared radius of the scoop, or its inverse). These shapes are closely related to Delaunay simplexes.
