The n-OCB family of liquid crystalline molecules consist of a relatively rigid cyanobiphenyl section along with a flexible alkyl chain.

The molecule 8OCB ((octyloxy)cyanobiphenyl) forms a liquid crystalline phase. 8OCB is one of the components of the E7 mixture.
